Ivan Drago asked:

I’m guessing the aim is to get a bar of pictures that are identical, but what is the function of the HI and LO buttons and the other buttons along the bottom?

dont bother, you’ll just get stitched up.

the hi/lo thing is when you get on the board, a number is there and you can double your money by going higher or lower than the number. It will stitch you alot though cause you’ll be on like 11 and go lower & it will be a 12.

all luck, just bash the buttons and hope for the best.

Fruit machines play YOU, as a rule.

The different buttons you see are all other ways of getting you to gamble once you get in to the “feature” game, which is where you can build up, through various devices like a Hi/Lo gamble, to the jackpot prize.

A British slot machine is a very different proposition from, say, and American slot machine.

They usually have a feature or sub game you can win, which is usually pretty self explanatory.

They also have three features you don’t generally find outside of the UK. One is ‘hold.’ This feature, when lit (usually with slowly blinking buttons) allows you to hold a symbol that arrived on the win line in the previous spin. It’s largely pointless since every spin is computer controlled and not truly random.

Another feature is ‘nudge.’ Sometimes after a spin the hold/nudge buttons will spin rapidly, and a number will be illuminated telling you how many nudges you have. A nudge allows you to move the reels to a win position, if you have enough nudges available. The vast majority of machines nudge down so bend down and look at the symbols above the win line to see what is within reach. Many machines have an auto-nudge button that will do this for you.

The hi and low is a way you can gamble. Let’s say you win £1. You will often be offered the chance to gamble this win with a high or low proposition bet. There is usually a reel numbered from 1 to 12. It will be already on a number, for example 3. You have to press high or low to decide if the next number is going to be higher or lower than the number currently displayed. So if 3 were showing, you have better odds that a number higher than 3 will show up since there are only two numbers below, yet 9 numbers higher. Usually winning one of these spins will advance you to the next prize up, losing will make you lose your win entirely.

The way fruit machines work in the UK is more complicated than places like the US. But keep in mind they are not quite so random either. Generally when a machine has decided to pay out a nice prize, it will offer the chance to win that prize. But that chance requires some skill or knowledge on the part of the player. If the player fails to capitalize on this chance, eventually the player will simply have the win given to them. But this takes time and therefore more money.

So there is an important skill element to the UK fruit machine. It will generally reward a better player sooner, than a completely clueless player. But on the flip side if it does not want to pay out, no amount of skill is going to make it. Even that seemingly random hi low gambling I mentioned is not a true random proposition bet. If it wants you to lose it will force the lose to happen.

Consider fruit machines for amusement only. Consider that they have a house edge of around 20% in most cases. You’d be better off playing the lottery. At least you stand to win a decent amount on that.

the aim of the game is to get all the pitchers or all the fruit matching along the bottom and once you have done that you get up on the Bord were you can win big money

Usually I promise him a good time then get him to buy drinks all night before I take off for my girlfriend’s house.

I Don’t waste of money they are set for you to lose not win otherwise their would be no point of them being in pubs..If you watch somebody playing one every 18 pounds that goes in pays out 5 pound then they put that back in and lose it the fruit machine only pays the jackpot once a month which means that the owners of that bandit take out over £1000 or more each month…
